Pets Are Homeless, Too

By Dr. Bruce Carstens

At this time of year, we are concerned about the homeless in our community. This month I wanted to let you know about two local residents who take care of the many homeless pets in our area.

When I was in Vet School, I was shocked to learn that Sacramento county has to euthanize over 20,000 animals each year due to pet overpopulation. There just aren't enough homes for all the strays that are found by animal control officers.

Lauren Jones and Laurie Deuschel are two of the many volunteers at the Roseville SPCA who spend countless hours trying to make sure as many animals as possible find a good home. They are constantly bringing me kittens or puppies that need a little attention, so they can go to a new home healthy and free of parasites.
